Seven years ago, Racheal Coburn began work at Susan Couzens, DMD as an EDDA (Expanded Duty Dental Assistant). That followed a three-year tenure at a Nicholasville dental practice and a collegiate program at the University of Kentucky. Racheal's training and experience qualifies her to place fillings, make crowns using the Cerec computer-driven manufacturing system, create temporaries, take x-rays, and assist in dental hygiene. Racheal is married to husband Chase and the couple have a two-year-old daughter. Camping, fishing and outdoor recreation are at the center of family activity, which often includes Golden Retriever Sadie and their adopted cat. The Coburn family lives in Moreland, from which Chase commutes to his position in industrial maintenance in Harrodsburg. "I love what I do." says Racheal, "Whether it is assisting Dr. Couzens or training other team members on the Cerec. It is even more exciting to work with Dr. Couzens as she was my dentist growing up and now I have an opportunity to grow with her and with the practice. Our patients are like family. Many of them have been a part of this practice for years and I feel like I know them on a close, personal basis."

Gina Lane has been a part of the Couzens Dental team for six-and-a-half years. Initially, she began work as the scheduling coordinator for the practice. Since then her responsibilities have broadened to include insurance, financial arrangements, cost estimating as well as scheduling. "This practice is personable and friendly, mostly because there is a genuine concern about the patient from the time they enter until they leave. The care even extends beyond office hours with Dr. Couzens willing to take patient calls late into the evening and weekends as well as weekdays," says Gina. The mother of a 19-year-old daughter, now a freshman at Eastern Kentucky University, Gina says she finds herself multi-tasking to give every patient full attention. "From the first call, we want to find out about the patient, what are his or her likes and what have been their previous dental experiences. We want patients to feel like they're part of a family," she says. "I guess you could say I love my job," Gina says.

When the Couzens moved to Danville 20 years ago, Chap Couzens was working for Toyota Manufacturing in Georgetown. The commute was rather extreme at the time, so he decided to join Susan Couzens DMD as the Practice Manager. His day-to-day work varies greatly depending on the time of year, but Chap oversees all vendors, ordering, payroll, and the practice's Advertising and Marketing efforts. Chap is married to Dr. Susan Couzens and together they have two children, Chappie and Laura. In his free time away from work, Chap enjoys cooking, (especially Thai, although Susan is not too keen on the spiciness the way he cooks it), traveling and exploring new places, reading, and the couple have recently taken up golf. Their oldest child Chappie (23), is a Marine Lieutenant and is in training to become a Marine pilot. Laura (21), is attending Belmont University where she is in ROTC, and is training to become a nurse. Upon graduation she will be with the Army for at least 4 years.
